Effects of a radio frequency electromagnetic field on honey bee larvae (Apis mellifera) differ in relation to the experimental study design

چکیده

Exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) at the operating frequencies of different communication devices can cause various biological effects. However, there is a lack studies on oxidative stress response and genotoxicity in honey bee (Apis mellifera) after exposure RF-EMF. In this study, we investigated DNA damage larvae situated waxcomb cells, exposed modulated RF-EMF 23 Vm-1. The glutathione S-transferase activity decreased, whereas catalase increased significantly upon exposure. Superoxide dismutase activity, level lipid peroxidation, were not statistically altered when compared control group. These results suggest that effects depend design.

Field-Level Sublethal Effects of Approved Bee Hive Chemicals on Honey Bees (Apis mellifera L)

In a study replicated across two states and two years, we tested the sublethal effects on honey bees of the miticides Apistan (tau fluvalinate) and Check Mite+ (coumaphos) and the wood preservative copper naphthenate applied at label rates in field conditions. A continuous covariate, a colony Varroa mite index, helped us disambiguate the effects of the chemicals on bees while adjusting for a pr...

Gene expression in honey bee (Apis mellifera) larvae exposed to pesticides and Varroa mites (Varroa destructor).

Honey bee (Apis mellifera) larvae reared in vitro were exposed to one of nine pesticides and/or were challenged with the parasitic mite, Varroa destructor. Total RNA was extracted from individual larvae and first strand cDNAs were generated. Gene-expression changes in larvae were measured using quantitative PCR (qPCR) targeting transcripts for pathogens and genes involved in physiological proce...

Investigation of Paenibacillus larvae subspecies larva of honey bee (Apis mellifera) colonies in East Azerbaijan Province of Iran

Background: The American foulbrood disease (AFB), caused by Paenibacillus larvae subsp. larvae, is one of the main plagues affecting honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) colonies, and it has a high negative impact on beekeepers worldwide. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this research was to describe the evidence of Paenibacillus larvae larvae contamination of honey bee colonies, in the East Azerbaijan Province...

Effects of Nosema apis, N. ceranae, and coinfections on honey bee (Apis mellifera) learning and memory

Western honey bees (Apis mellifera) face an increasing number of challenges that in recent years have led to significant economic effects on apiculture, with attendant consequences for agriculture. Nosemosis is a fungal infection of honey bees caused by either Nosema apis or N. ceranae. The putative greater virulence of N. ceranae has spurred interest in understanding how it differs from N. api...

Heterosis in the Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera L.).

HERE are three castes in the honey bee colony: the drone, queen, and worker. T The latter two are both females. The drone bee is a male, representing a haploid gamete of the queen bee heading his hive. The honey bee colony is composed of two generations of bees. The queen bee is, in effect, a potent egg-laying machine, while the workers are morphologically and functionally fitted for honey and ...
